About Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Northeast Ohio Affiliate
Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Moved by her sister’s compassion for others and commitment to making a difference, in 1982 Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. Though Susan lost her battle with the disease, her legacy lives on through the work of Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the organization Nancy started in her honor. Komen for the Cure is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1.9 billion since its inception in 1982. Since 1994, the Northeast Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has raised $19 million to provide funding and support to Northeast Ohio agencies working to create a world without breast cancer. In 2011, Komen Northeast Ohio granted nearly $1.2 million to 14 agencies across the region. These agencies provide mammograms and screening, breast cancer education and ongoing support. Komen’s vision is to create a world without breast cancer.
